More About The Product
Also known as Oberon boots or leaf shoes, they were the original Pendragon leaf design. We have always been inspired to make shoes from fairy tale books and this was really taking it up a level. It was our first experiment with embossing and hand painting leather to look like leaves as part of our nature inspired Metamorphosis exhibition.
We made the series in our shop above Elizabeth Arcade in Brisbane in 1994. We received an Arts Queensland grant to make a series of art shoes and tour them to a couple of locations in Queensland. We held a performance of all of the designs at a (now unfortunately demolished) ballroom in Elizabeth St in Brisbane City. Each pair of shoes was portrayed as a character to music and the model wore costumes to match.
We later traveled to Cairns and displayed them at Crackerbox Palace (a store selling a great collection of artifacts). We also had an exhibition at Woodford Folk Festival as part of our stall that year.
